Protect the Florida Keys: Write a Letter Today!

The Florida Keys ROGO Coalition supports HB 995 by Representative Jim Mooney and its companion bill SB 1326 by Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez as a balanced solution for managing development in the Keys, prioritizing affordable and workforce housing while protecting the community’s character and environment. These bills responsibly allocate 825 new ROGO permits over the next 10 years, with a substantial portion earmarked for workforce housing needs. In contrast, SB 1730, introduced by Senator Alexis Calatayud (who does not even represent the Keys), adds thousands of additional ROGOs and threatens to drive unchecked development, putting our infrastructure, water quality, and hurricane evacuation safety at risk.

We urge residents to act by writing a letter to the relevant House and Senate Committee Members supporting House Bill 995 and SB 1326. Please be aware, we have grouped together emails for both House and Senate representatives of the remaining committees to hear these bills, since these bills are coming into alignment with each other. Please consider writing a second letter opposing Senate Bill 1730 and email it to those Senate Committees hearing SB 1730. Your voice is critical in ensuring that we protect the future of the Florida Keys and prioritize our quality of life over developer interests. Please send your letters ASAP. SB 1730 is being heard on Monday!
